APPENDIX #1
Professional Profiles
Evaluator #1 - Kathryn M.
I attended Siena College as a Psychology major. During my time of study I studied abroad and had the opportunity to participate in a community service program where I created lesson plans and taught English as a New Language to elementary and high school students. As a result, after graduation, I decided to begin a Masters in Education program at the College of Saint Rose. After earning my 9-12 ELA Certification and 5-6 ELA Extension, I served as a substitute teacher for one year then worked as a 6th grade reading and writing (ELA) teacher for 3 years (two classes I worked as a co-teacher). During that time I worked with the other 6th grade reading and writing teacher to create the grade level curriculum aligned to the NYSCC Standards, design interdisciplinary projects, and constructed formative assessments. While teaching, I went back to school to earn my TESOL Certification. I’m currently teaching Integrated ELA/ENL at the high school level, working with students at a variety of proficiency levels from 10 different countries. During my time as an ENL teacher I’ve designed curriculum aligned to NYSCC Standards as well as created projects and assessments, all of which are differentiated to meet the goals and needs of each student. In an effort to continue my education, I recently began an Educational District/Building Leadership Program through Stony Brook University with the hope of filling the role of a department chair or coordinator (someday).
